Malta 2027 introduction
The 8th Commonwealth Youth Games will take place across the islands of Malta and Gozo. The Games will use existing sports facilities organised within four main venue clusters together with two Athlete Villages created from hotel accommodation, one on each island.
Approximately 1200 athletes aged 14 to 18 from across Commonwealth Sport’s 74 nations and territories are expected to compete.
The Malta 2027 Sport Programme will feature eight sports. Para Swimming, Sailing and Water Polo will make their Commonwealth Youth Games debut, alongside Athletics and Para Athletics, Netball, Squash, Swimming, Triathlon, and Weightlifting.
Malta 2027 will deliver the largest Para sport programme in Commonwealth Youth Games history. Para Swimming will be included in the Youth Games programme for the first time, building on the inclusion of Para Athletics at Trinidad and Tobago 2023.
Alongside competition, the Games will include a Cultural and Education Programme focused on youth engagement and the diversity of the Commonwealth. Planning for the Games also considers long-term impact, including sport participation, event delivery capacity and community benefit beyond 2027.
Venue
Tal-Qroqq National Pool
The National Pool at the Tal-Qroqq Sport Complex will host Swimming and Para Swimming at Malta 2027. The complex is Malta’s national swimming hub and a long-standing centre for competitive aquatic sport.

· Facility: Olympic-length 10 lane 50-metre outdoor pool
· 10 lane 50 metre training pool
Part of the wider Tal-Qroqq Sports Complex, the facility includes an outdoor 50-metre Olympic sized Swimming Pool and additional 25 metre training. For Malta 2027, it will provide a dynamic and inclusive environment for athletes to compete at the highest youth level.
The Tal-Qroq National Pool is a regular host of international events across all aquatic disciplines including the European Aquatics Men’s Water Polo Champions League, annual Easter International Swimming Meet and the 2023 Games of Small States of Europe.
